The RSPCA is appealing for information after a mum and her five kittens were found dumped in the car park of a pub in Witney, Oxfordshire.

The kittens and their mum had been left with some food in a plastic box in the car park at the Rose Revived Inn in Newbridge, Witney on Saturday, 14 May.

The frightened mum had taken the kittens out of the box and hidden them in hedges by the trees.

The kittens, two boys and three girls, were around four to five weeks old at the time and they are now being cared for by our Oxfordshire Branch at Willow Farm in Oxfordshire.

RSPCA animal welfare officer (AWO), Luke Hughes, said:

These poor kittens and their young mum had just been dumped in this car park. Their mother was obviously frightened by the ordeal and had taken her kittens into the bushes for safety.

It is really upsetting when we find that animals have just been dumped by their owners, and we are appealing to anyone who may have any information to contact the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.

Those found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal can face a maximum six month prison sentence and/or a £20,000 fine.

Mum and kittens are doing well

The kittens have now been named Gucci, Westwood, Prada, Armani and Versace. They are doing well and are currently being weaned. Four of the kittens have been reserved, but little Versace, who is a boy, has not been found a home yet. Their mother has been called Isabella, and has also been reserved.

Anyone interested in offering Versace a new home is urged to call Willow Farm on 01235 821536 between 11am and 4pm.

Tackling the pet overpopulation problem

The pet animal population in the UK now far outweighs the number of suitable homes available to them. Many animals are being abandoned and our animal centres are becoming full.

Help us to prevent more unwanted animals in the future by ensuring your pets are neutered.
