It's RSPCA Week and this year, with your help, we're hoping to raise even more money because we believe animals deserve better!

This year RSPCA vice-president and actor Brian Blessed is helping us to raise awareness and support for RSPCA Week, as well as our biggest ever digital event called RSPCA Live which took place at the weekend on our Facebook and Twitter profiles in support of the week. Watch Brian in our short videos above.

Every year RSPCA Week aims to raise awareness of what we do and during the week we try to raise as much money as possible to help us continue our vital animal welfare work.

The RSPCA only exists because of public donations and last year, with your help and generosity, we raised an amazing £320,000.

We understand this is a difficult time for many people, but a gift, no matter how small, really will make a difference to animals' lives.

Animals like Maggie May

Maggie May, a lurcher-type dog, was the victim of an horrific case of animal cruelty and endured a tremendous amount of suffering at the hands of her previous owner and his friends.

The lurcher-type dog, who was just six months old at the time, was found collapsed on a street with a broken neck and badly damaged legs.

She had suffered a broken leg in a car accident the evening before. But instead of seeking veterinary care, her previous owner decided to treat Maggie May himself by tying chopsticks to her broken leg.

The next day friends of the owner decided to kill Maggie May and put her out of her misery by forcing her back legs over her head, breaking her neck.

They then stabbed her several times with a potato peeler, before leaving her for dead on a grass verge.

Miraculously Maggie May survived her horrifying ordeal, but sadly her broken leg had to be amputated.

Thanks to the RSPCA, Maggie May now lives with five doggy friends in a caring and happy new home and her previous owner and his friends were successfully prosecuted by us.

With your help and support this RSPCA Week, we can turn around the lives of many more animals like Maggie May.
