Veterinary nurse Zoe Holding at our East Winch Wildlife Centre in Norfolk is set to take on the challenge of a lifetime when she takes part in the Tough Guy endurance event next year.

As part of the challenge, Zoe will have to tackle an eight-mile course which includes:

  • cross-country running
  • assault obstacles
  • fire pits
  • barbed wire
  • electric shocks
  • and freezing waters.

And all in the name of charity!

The tougher the challenge the better for our Zoe

Zoe, 35, will be taking part in the event to raise much-needed funds for the RSPCA East Winch Wildlife Centre near King's Lynn.

The Tough Guy challenge will be held on 29 January 2012. Zoe has already raised £400 in sponsorship, but has set herself a target of £1,000 and hopes the people of Norfolk will support her fundraising efforts.

Zoe said:

It is fair to say that more guys take part in this event than girls, and it is definitely going to be a physical challenge.

I had planned to do it earlier this year, but had to pull out because of an injury.

I've been doing lots of training and running, and every so often throwing myself in the sea, as the hardest part of the challenge for me will be the freezing waters aspect of it.

'My friends think I am crazy!'

Zoe added:

I just really wanted to raise some money for the centre because, like everywhere, times are financially hard, and we are doing all we can to raise much-needed funds.

I just wanted to do my bit and ensure that it was challenging enough to make people want to put their hands in their pockets and support me.

My friends think I am crazy! But my parents are very excited and supportive of me.

'She is a very determined lady'

Alison Charles, East Winch centre manager, said:

When we heard that Zoe had signed up for this we all thought she was mad, but she is a very determined lady and we know she will do fantastic and we are right behind her.

As a charity we rely on donations from the public and kind-hearted fundraisers like Zoe.

We just hope people will be able to spare a few pounds and sponsor Zoe for this very difficult challenge.
