Our East Winch Wildlife Centre in Norfolk desperately needs donations of blankets, sheets and towels to help look after the many wild birds that come into its care.

Blankets, sheets and towels are mainly used as bedding during the rehabilitation of the birds, which currently include swans, ducks, gulls, woodpeckers and small garden birds.

But centre supplies have almost completely dried up and staff are concerned that if they don't replenish their stocks soon, they could be in trouble.

'They are really important for our daily work'

Ann Smith who works at the wildlife centre said:

On the last count we had 27 swans and more than 50 other birds that need to use some kind of sheet, blanket or towel on a daily basis so you can see how quickly we can run out!

The people of East Anglia and further afield have always been really generous when we make our appeals, and we hope they will come forward and help us again.

Any kind of sheet, blanket or towel can be used for bedding, and they are really important for our daily work at the centre.

Swans rescued from oil slick needed many towels and blankets

The centre recently had to use a large number of blankets, sheets and towels on a group of swans which were brought in from Ipswich following an oil slick.

All the birds were cleaned and when fully recovered they were returned to the River Orwell
