We are trying to track down the owner of a cat who suffered an ordeal after being trapped in a car engine in south London.

The black-and-white domestic short-haired cat was rescued by the London Fire Brigade and the RSPCA after he was discovered in a car parked in Cowick Road in Tooting on Saturday, 15 May at around 11.45am.

He was taken to the RSPCA Putney Animal Hospital where he was given a clean bill of health and a thorough clean with an oil-removing gel by staff, who have nicknamed him Scorch.

The hospital is now looking for the cat's owners. He was wearing a silver reflective collar but it does not hold any contact details and he is not microchipped.

Staff nurse Marianne Segev said:

The poor cat was covered in oil when he first came to us but he looks great now he has had a good clean.

As he was wearing a collar, we think he must have an owner out there but because he was found in a car he could have come from anywhere.

We really want to reunite this lovely cat with his owners so we would like to hear from anyone who can help us to get him back where he belongs.

Do you recognise Scorch?

If you can help us find Scorch's owners so he can go home, we really want to hear from you.

People claiming to be the cat's owner will be asked to provide proof of ownership, such as a photograph, before taking him home.

If no owner comes forward within seven days, Scorch will be put forward for rehoming.

If you recognise Scorch, or would like to rehome him if his owners cannot be traced, please contact our Putney Animal Hospital on 0300 123 0716.
