Computeractive magazine is supporting our Justice for Animals Appeal by pledging £2,100 - the average cost of a prosecution case brought by the RSPCA - and a further £2.50 for every new subscription until the end of August.

Editor of the plain English approach magazine, Paul Allen, explains more in this video:

By backing our Justice For Animals Appeal, Computeractive has shown their commitment to help the nation's most vulnerable animals and prevent severe acts of cruelty happening again.

You can view their fun video about 'man's new best friend' and learn more about how to subscribe to the magazine at:

Why do we prosecute?

The number of incidents of animal cruelty reported to the RSPCA is increasing.

We believe it is important that individuals involved in the most serious cases are brought to justice and prevented from causing further harm to animals.

We're the only organisation taking legal action on this scale. In 2010 we prosecuted 1,114 defendants, costing £2,100 each on average, and achieved a 97.5 per cent success rate.

Suitcase puppies

Successful cases like these collies which were left to die in suitcases when they were puppies in August 2008.

Happily the surviving puppies made a miraculous recovery and have now been successfully rehomed.

The collies are pictured here with their new owners at a reunion in April - almost three years after they were found by RSPCA Inspector Rachel Bell and Police Sergeant Dave Price (also in the photo).

The dog breeder who put the puppies in suitcases and kept adult dogs in squalid and cramped conditions was banned from keeping animals for life in November 2009.

You can read more about these puppies, and watch a video of their reunion, in our rehoming success story: Happy ending for suitcase puppies
