Cat dies after being thrown at owners' front door
21.10.11
We are appealing for information after a 19-year-old cat was hurled against his owners' front door, breaking his back and causing his death.
Carmen and Adrian Dunbar were at their home in Lister Road, Wanstead, north-east London, during the early evening of Friday, 7 October when they heard a loud thud on their front door.
When they went out to look, to their horror they found their beloved pet cat Oliver lying injured on the ground.
Oliver had to be put to sleep to end his suffering
Carmen said:
It was horrendous. We took him straight to a vet but he had to be put to sleep.
He was a much-loved cat in our neighbourhood and so friendly that he would go up to anyone.
'Such an appalling end for Oliver'
Carmen's husband, Adrian, said:
This was such an appalling end for Oliver.
It is beyond words how we feel about what happened.
Two young people seen following attack who may be able to help
Adrian added:
After he was hurled at our front door I saw very fleetingly two young people turn a corner. I only hope they may be able to provide more information as to who did this.
A senseless act of animal cruelty
The couple had owned ginger tabby cat Oliver since he was just four years old and they are at a loss as to who would kill their cat in this way.
RSPCA Inspector Jas Matharu said:
This was a horrible, nasty crime - one of the worst things I have come across as an RSPCA inspector.
We would like to hear from anyone who knows who is responsible for attacking Oliver in this way and from anyone who knows anything about it.
Can you help with our investigation?
We'd really like to hear from anyone who has any information at all about Oliver's attack, no matter how insignificant you think it might be.
You can call the RSPCA 24-hour cruelty line in confidence on 0300 1234 999.
Thank you
