Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre

Volunteering and student placements

Volunteers and students play an essential role in the running of Stapeley Grange

Stapeley Grange, likes most charities, relies heavily on the support of volunteers and students; their involvement makes up approximately seven people per day, 365 days a year, which is incredible.

Whether you are interested in helping out in the wildlife hospital, the cattery or in the office, you are needed.  You may prefer being outside and helping with the maintenance of the site or alternatively supporting our education team.

Your skills may alternativelly lie in fundraising so why not join our fundraising team in their efforts to raise much needed funds; funds that are used to help cover some of the running costs of feeding and cleaning up to 6500 animals each year or funding small projects that help to maintain and improve the facilities.

Fundraising activities can include running a stall or stewarding at events, selling raffle tickets, serving tea and cakes, baking cakes or growing plants, setting up for events and site preparation, face painting, etc.

We are also always looking for people to hold events on behalf of the Centre.  This could include having a small coffee morning with friends, cake sale, raising money at a car boot or holding sponsored events.

IMPORTANT: Due to staff numbers and the nature of the work it is difficult for our team to manage volunteers under the age of 18, which includes one week school placements and Duke of Edinburgh.  Although we recognise the importance of such opportunities we feel we do not have the time to properly induct and/or train and therefore can not offer a suitable experience. We do however offer an 'experience day' for those under 18 for those still super keen to help - see bel;ow.

General Volunteering (for all areas not covered below) (ON HOLD) - If you are interested in joining the team and 18 or over please e-mail us: volunteer-stapeley@rspca.org.uk

Veterinary Placements (EMS) (ON HOLD) - The wildlife hospital currently runs a clinical wildlife and exotics rotation for University of Liverpool students.  As a result we are unable to offer EMS placements to final year vet students at this time.

Veterinary Volunteer Programme  -  We are currently looking to recruit two vets from October 2021 and January 2022. All training is provided on site and volunteers will be involved in both the wildlife hospital and cattery.   Vets will be required to work shifts that include evenings and weekends (+Bank Holidays).  The role is unpaid, however accommodation is available on site free of charge and your RCVS membership is refunded at the end of the 12 months.  For more information contact us via e-mail: teresa.vicensprohens@rspca.org.uk

Long term Student Placements (wildlife hospital and cattery) -  We are offering four month summer (May-August 2021) and one year student placements (starting September 2021) for those involved in animal care, wildlife, or conservation related courses and are keen to gain valuable hands on with wildlife and/or cat rehabilitation.  Individuals not studying can also apply.  For more information contact us via e-mail: student-stapeley@rspca.org.uk

Corporate Days (ON HOLD) -  Is your company interested in team building days and corporate responsibility within the local community?  Stapeley can offer exciting days out for small teams of up to 15 people. For more information contact us via e-mail: lee.stewart@rspca.org.uk

Experience Days (ON HOLD) - Have you ever wanted to get a taster of what working in a wildlife hospital is really like? It really isn't about cuddling and playing with cute animals, it's about cleaning, feeding and the welfare of the animals in your care.  Stapeley is not open to the public but limited opportunities are available to shadow one of our experienced members of staff.

Stapeley Grange is one of the busiest, if not the busiest, wildlife hospital in the country with almost 6500 animals arriving each year so we certainly offer variety in terms of what you will experience.  Opportunities are also available in the Cattery too, where getting up close and personal is definitely a reality.  For more information contact us via e-mail: lee.stewart@rspca.org.uk
