Branch Chairperson

Act as key member of the branch committee, leading and directing the activities of the other trustees. Ensures that the committee functions properly and is effective in running the local branch.

Lead the branch.

Ensure that all relevant matters are discussed at branch meetings, and that effective decisions are made.

Direct the activities of the branch and its committee, encouraging full participation by all members.

Actively co-ordinate the activities of the branch, including delegating tasks.

Ensure branch decisions are implemented and actions are completed on a timely basis.

To be instrumental in the production and review of a branch development plan.

Regularly review the Committee's performance.

Times & preferred duration of commitment

Meetings can be any day, usually on a weekday evening.

As a minimum, trustees are expected to attend a bi-monthly meeting lasting for 2 or 3 hours as well as the Annual General Meeting. The role of Chair outside of meetings will probably require 5 hours a week on average.

The duration of commitment is flexible but ideally 1 year.

Experience / skills / knowledge / personal qualities required

Ideally suits someone with previous managerial experience (whether acquired through voluntary work or employment).

A proactive person, who enjoys organising. Self motivated, they can direct others and communicate clearly. Tact and impartiality are key requirements in a volunteer environment.

Basic computer skills will be helpful.

Training provided

Training regarding branch rules and procedures will be provided by the branch.

Expenses

Out of pocket expenses can be reimbursed if required.
