Branch Health and Safety Representative

To have specific responsibility for informing trustees, other branch volunteers and staff on health and safety matters relating to the activities of the branch.

To undertake risk assessments, to supervise remedial action when risks are identified, to ensure that appropriate records are kept and to implement good practices relating to health and safety.

To be a co-opted trustee with potential to become a full trustee if desired.

Key activities

Ensuring that current health and safety policies are updated as necessary and identifying new legislation.

Duties will include conducting risk assessments and making recommendations to the Trustees on Health and Safety issues.

To highlight the potential health and safety issues arising and draw attention to the correct procedures to ensure compliance.

Keeping up-to-date safety records and carrying out periodic inspections throughout the branch areas of activity.

Accident investigation and reporting any dangerous occurrences.

Times & preferred duration of commitment

Flexible: However the successful applicant who will be expected to attend the branch areas of activity on a regular basis.

Administrative work can be conducted from home.

Experience / skills / knowledge / personal qualities required

No specialist knowledge is required, but a practical personality and a willingness to work within a regulatory framework will be needed.

A working knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation would be a distinct advantage.

This role is suitable for 18+.

Training provided

National RSPCA Health and Safety guidelines are provided and there could be some administrative support from the Branch Administrator.
