Volunteer Driver

To transport animals/items to and from vets and other locations as required and as directed by the branch/centre in small RSPCA van.

Key activities

To transport animals or other items to and from veterinary practices or other locations as required.

To handle animals that are to be transported, as set down by the branches/centres guidelines and within health and safety guidelines. This will involve lifting, moving animals of various sizes and weight. Usually cats but sometimes dogs.

To comply with the branch's/centres rules and regulations.

To undertake appropriate training as directed by the branch/centre.

To use RSPCA equipment to transport the animals such as leads, cages, vari kennels, van etc

Times & preferred duration of commitment

On an ad-hoc basis as and when required. Usually 1-2 hours a day, 2-3 times a week and can be negotiable.

Experience / skills / knowledge / personal qualities required

Driver with basic knowledge of the local area (Sat Nav provided). Friendly and helpful with an interest in local animal welfare.
All volunteer drivers must ensure that they use the van for RSPCA purposes only and that they are not under the influence of drugs or alcohol whilst driving the vehicle. Drivers must have a valid driving licence and be able to lift animals into and out of the vehicle. If a volunteer has any concerns or questions regarding their role, they should speak to a member of staff immediately.
