The role of dog fosterer can include caring for dogs of all ages, and in all states of health.

Some dogs will need medical attention. Others will require training and socialisation. All will require a high standard of care, walking, feeding, grooming, and assessment.

All food, medical care, and equipment for the dogs will be provided by the branch. No costs will need to be incurred by the volunteer.

The period of fostering can vary greatly, and any length of support is appreciated but a minimum commitment of 3 month is recommended.

The dog will require a minimum of 1-2 hours of attention every day of the period committed.

the dog cannot be left alone for extended periods of time (over 4 hours at a time)

For people offering a long term commitment to volunteering, outdoor / indoor animal accommodation can be provided by the branch.

Experience of dog ownership is essential, as is a commitment to the RSPCA's standards of animal welfare.

If you own other animals, they must be neutered, vaccinated, and happy to accept another animal in their home.

Love, patience, and commitment are also essential, as some of our dogs have been in our care for a long time or may have been mistreated and will need good socialisation and training before they can be rehomed.

Training and support is provided throughout the fostering period.

All veterinary, fuel and food costs will be covered by the branch.
