Fostering of cruelty case dogs and puppies whilst the case is ongoing.

Key activities

Daily care of the dog/puppy, including feeding, exercising, training and socialisation. Fosterers must monitor and promptly report any behavioural or health problems. The dog will also need to return the Centre for regular weight/vet checks

Times & preferred duration of commitment

Variable, but a minimum fostering period of 1 month would be preferable

Experience / skills / knowledge / personal qualities required

Experience with dogs is essential, as many of the dogs will not be house trained or socialised and may have come from difficult backgrounds. A calm and practical outlook will help the dog adjust to home life.

Training provided

Potential fosterers will be provided with information on the RSPCA case procedure, and will receive training in dog behaviour and positive reinforcement training methods. Fosterers will also work with the kennel supervisor and the selected dog in order to ensure a good match. Ongoing support will be provided by Centre staff.

Expenses

All equipment, food and veterinary fees are covered by the RSPCA
