Bobby is a loveable young boy about 2 years old, he is a proper mongrel with a bit of every breed in him! He came into our care with another dog Rosie from an owner who could no longer afford to care for the dogs.
Bobby is a fantastic dog with a fabulous character and an adorable face we just can’t resist and what's more is he adores people.
Bobby is an overgrown puppy who has had no training in his previous home as he pulls and weaves a lot on the lead, he jumps up at people for attention and he hasn’t quite got to grips with house training. Basic dog training classes are a must for Bobby as he is very willing to learn and desperate to please. He is obsessed with treats so we are finding it quite easy to motivate him. He has learnt ‘sit’ and we have been working hard to discourage him from jumping up at people when he gets excited. With some time and patience Bobby could be an amazing dog and he absolutely loves being told what a good boy he is! We have introduced a dog crate into Bobby’s kennel to get him used to being crate trained, as we believe this is essential for him and will help with his house training overnight.
Bobby is not used to being left alone; he has always been with his friend Rosie or his owner so he does get very distressed when he is left. We expect that Bobby will suffer from separation anxiety so we are looking for a home where he will not be left more than 2-3 hours a day. We are happy to consider a home with another dog but the existing dog must be very tolerant of lively playful dogs, as Bobby has very few manners and tends to jump straight up to other dogs expecting them to play with him. This can get him into a bit of bother if the other dog isn’t too willing!
Out on walks Bobby can be a bit giddy; he has very little focus on his handler and he is overly interested in cats and squirrels but after an excited 15 minutes he tends to settle down and walk close to you. We walk Bobby on a Halti harness, which gives us a bit more control than a regular harness and it helps if he decides to pull towards any wildlife that catch his eye. We would not recommend letting Bobby off lead until he has had training to improve his focus and recall; currently he finds going on walks so exciting that he barely notices us so keeping him on the lead is a must.
Bobby isn’t interested in toys just people and he will never tire of belly rubs and kisses. We do play games with him using treats and we make treasure hunts for him in our paddock which he loves. We believe that once he is settled in his new home then his interest in toys will likely develop.
Bobby is a lovely boy who adores people, he a big softy who just wants to be loved. We are looking for a home with an experienced dog owner who has had experience with rescue dogs or raising large, exuberant puppies. Although Bobby is extremely gentle his jumping up is an issue so a home with children 12 and over would be best. A home with no small furries is a must. Bobby is a very special dog who can brighten up anyone’s day, he has so much to offer he will be a truly amazing companion for someone willing to put the time and effort into his training.
