About us

Nestled in 186 acres of beautiful Shropshire countryside, our Gonsal Farm Animal Centre and Equine Rehabilitation Centre opened its doors to the public in 2002.

At any one time, Gonsal provides a temporary home to over 150 animals, many of which require intense rehabilitation in preparation for rehoming and the chance to start their lives afresh.

It is estimated that during a decade in Dorrington, staff at the centre have found new homes for over 10,000 animals ranging in size and stature from a tiny hamster to a magnificent mare.

A big supporter of our Gonsal Farm Animal Centre is TV dog trainer Victoria Stilwell who is best known for the hit TV series ‘It's me or the dog’.

Victoria visited Shropshire in January 2012 for a dog training seminar and was amazed by the work we do. Victoria said:

I think that is really what makes an animal shelter great, the people that work there. The staff at Gonsal are fantastic, the trainers are fantastic, the volunteers as well.

As we are only taking enquines in via our RSPCA Inspectors all the horses and ponies in our care have been victims of cruelty or neglect.

Some are still recovering from their ordeal while the ones that are back to full health are being worked ready for rehoming. This may be work from the ground like teaching them how to lead or for some to be trained to be riding ponies.

Due to their past it can take quite a long time to get the horses and ponies to this stage as the most important thing is for them to trust us. Find out how you can help us!
