Welfare offence led to horse ban

Two Devon women were banned from keeping equines for a year in April 2011.

The women were found guilty of failing to protect a foal from pain, injury, suffering and disease after the skewbald named William was found emaciated and collapsed.

William needed help to stand and a vet confirmed that he was suffering from a worm burden and was emaciated as a result of insufficient feeding.

The pair, from Nadderwater and Crediton respectively, also owned another five horses which were kept in the same small paddock as William.
