Brock's story

As people sat at home excitedly wrapping presents in preparation for Christmas day collie cross Brock was shivering alone outside in the cold.

Brook was discovered just two days before Christmas day. She had severe hair loss, thickened skin and was very thin. When we found her she in a garden desperately scavenging for something to eat.

All of Brock’s bones, especially her pelvis and hips, were extremely prominent. Little wonder as she weighed only 11.4 kilo grams – less than the average two-year-old child.

A dog's life?

When we found Brocks owner he said he had owned her since she was a puppy. He claimed that he had tried to feed her but she hadn’t put on any weight.

However in our care Brock gained three kilograms in three weeks.

It was clear she had not been adequately fed. With ordinary feeding and inexpensive medical treatment Brock soon made a full recovery.

Guilty plea for failing to protect Brock

Brock’s owner pleaded to failing to protect Brock from pain, suffering, injury and disease by not addressing her weight loss, an offence under the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

In addition to the five year ban he was also given a curfew by magistrates and ordered to pay veterinary and kennel fees of £770.35.

Brook has since been successfully rehomed.
