Purpose of position:
To control and manage the administration of a local RSPCA branch.

Key activities:
Trustees (minimum 7, maximum 14 elected Trustees per branch, the number of current vacancies varies on a branch by branch basis) serve on the governing body of the charity and have the responsibility for controlling the management and running of a local RSPCA branch.

Period of volunteering:    Anyday

Time and preferred duration of commitment:
As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, the commitment may vary dependent on whether or not the trustee takes on additional duties such as the role of a branch officer (chairman, treasurer orsecretary). Trustees are elected for a 12 month term at each AGM. There is no limit to the number oftimes a trustee may seek re-election to the trustee board. Experience/skills/knowledge/personal qualities required:
To be a branchtrustee you will need to be committed to the RSPCA's objectives. You will need to be able to work with people and have good interpersonal skills. You do not need to be an expert although commitment, common sense and the ability to be impartial is vital. However, some trustee positions may require specific skills such as finance, fundraising, project management, business experience, awareness of employment and/or charity legislation.
