Inspector Anthony Joynes
Anthony has been an RSPCA inspector for three years. He decided to do the trek as a personal goal and because it was a chance to support the charity which he is so passionate about.
Anthony says he can’t wait for the trek and hopes the training won’t cause him too many problems, being quite a fit person, if he does say so himself!
Here is just one example of why Anthony needs your support...
Harvey and Gina's story
Harvey and Gina had been left to starve to death in a house, while their owner was living and returning to the property.
In November last year Anthony was called to an incident after police in Manchester contacted us after they had entered a property on a separate issue. When Anthony entered the property he found two dead Staffordshire bull terriers, Harvey and Gina, curled up next to each other on the floor of a filthy kitchen, both in an extremely emaciated body condition. He also discovered three cats, Tom, Tigger and Dot, living in appalling conditions. It was only because they were able to come and go through an open window that the three cats managed to survive.
A long time suffering
In interview their owner stated that she “couldn’t afford to feed them properly”. The cats were immediately signed over to the care of the RSPCA. When examined by a vet they were all found to be in a good body condition, however due to the lack of food and water available would have begun to suffer. The vet also stated that based on a post-mortem the demise of the dogs would have begun in September or even earlier.
Harvey and Gina’s former owner was successfully prosecuted, she received a 4-month custodial sentence and a lifetime ban from owning any animals.

An Inspector's view...
In a recent blog post one of our brave inspectors, Lee Hopgood, explains how he got involved in this incredible challenge.
