Virgin Trains
Virgin Trains, which carries 70,000 passengers a day, has been steadily making improvements right across the range of food the company offers onboard.
For example in First Class, two-and-a-half million passengers each year are offered a breakfast containing bacon and sausages from only free-range or outdoor-reared pigs and British free range eggs, whether it's fried or scrambled eggs on the menu - or even egg in a sandwich or as an ingredient used in mayonnaise or in cakes and muffins.
Nic Cuthbertson, Virgin Trains' product development and purchasing manager said: "We've spent months finding the highest quality ingredients from the highest quality producers. We have completely moved away from any product that is intensively farmed - selecting products which really comes through in the taste."
Martin Phillips, Virgin Trains
"It's lovely to be recognised in this way. It genuinely means a lot to our customers and encourages us as a business to keep up the good work!"
The GBA judges said:
"Virgin Trains have showed continued dedication to animal welfare and all the judges were impressed with their use of free range products."
