Foston pig farm
We visited Midland Pig Producers in February 2011 to discuss animal welfare standards in relation to the company’s proposed development at Foston, South Derbyshire. At present this development is still at the planning application stage. The only way to make an evaluation about animal welfare with any real certainty is to be able to assess something that actually exists.
With such a large scale operation (potential capacity is for more than 25,000 pigs on site at any one time) we believe it is imperative that we work with the producers to ensure that animal welfare concerns are taken into consideration
This does not mean that we ‘support’ or ‘endorse’ the Foston application or that we oppose it - simply that we have discussed and offered information and advice on a number of areas affecting farm animal welfare including environment, management, health, transport and slaughter.
