What is Freedom Food?

The Freedom Food farm assurance and food labelling scheme was set up by the RSPCA in 1994. It’s the only UK farm assurance scheme dedicated to farm animal welfare, and approves well-managed indoor/barn, free-range and organic methods. The scheme regulates the entire supply chain, offers a robust traceability system and is backed by one of the most respected animal charities in the world.

High profile campaigns by Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall have helped to raise public awareness of Freedom Food. Today’s discerning consumers are increasingly concerned about animal welfare, and want to be sure that the food they buy and eat has been produced on farms rearing their animals to higher welfare standards. This assurance is provided by the Freedom Food logo.

The use of the Freedom Food logo is strictly regulated to protect its integrity. So whenever consumers see the logo they can be 100 per cent confident that the animal has been reared according to the RSPCA’s higher welfare standards under the Freedom Food farm assurance scheme.
