Abattoir sign up vital to wider success
Freedom Food launched a new campaign to sign up more abattoirs to the scheme in September. The success of the campaign is seen as vital to increasing the number of products displaying Freedom Food labelling and the added value that the logo gives.
“As Freedom Food is a birth-to-slaughter scheme, no product can be sold showing the recognisable Freedom Food logo unless every step of the production chain has been approved,” explains Liam Kurzeja, membership marketing manager.
“This makes abattoirs an equally important link in the chain, if all members are to benefit from the added value that customer recognition of the logo provides.
“The problem is, at present, abattoirs represent a disproportionately small percentage of our membership numbers and means that too many producers are often unable to find a scheme-approved abattoir near enough to their business.”
But that is set to change. And you can help the success of the campaign to sign up more abattoirs and thereby help your business.
“To help solve the problem, we’ve created a great opportunity for abattoirs who are interested in joining Freedom Food,” adds Liam. “New abattoirs that apply and are accepted during the membership drive will be entitled to FREE membership for the first year.
“What we are asking members to do is talk to their abattoir if they are not signed up – and are preventing the Freedom Food logo from being used on their products – and ask them to get in touch with us.”
The campaign has also featured in thousands of promotional inserts distributed with the autumn issues of Meat Trades Journal and Meat Management magazine and a direct mail proposition to over 400 abattoirs nationwide.
