Traditional pancakes

The best pancakes use eggs from cage-free hens

Whether you prefer yours dipped in chocolate, smothered in ice-cream, rolled or folded, or simply sprinkled with lemon and sugar, please make sure your eggs are cage-free this Pancake Day.

More of us than ever are choosing barn and free-range eggs which is great news. But most of us donít realise that over half of our eggs still come from hens kept in cramped cages, where each bird has less space than a piece of A4 paper.  Thatís 17 million hens kept in cages!

Itís so easy to do your bit to help by only choosing cage-free eggs such as barn and free-range, where the birds can freely move around, scratch the ground, dustbathe, perch and express other natural behaviours.

And if you also choose ones with the Freedom Food label this means they have come from hens that have been kept on farms inspected to the RSPCAís  welfare standards.

So however you decide to have yours, think about the hens too and make your pancake a higher welfare one.

We have a great pancake recipe for you to try. So get out those cage-free eggs and get cracking!
