Assembly: baby animals
This lesson provides an assembly topic suitable for Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils in spring and early summer.
Curriculum objectives
Pupils should learn:
- that all animals should be treated with respect
- that humans have a responsibility to ensure the well-being of animals.
Animal welfare objectives
Pupils should learn:
- that wild baby animals need special care from their parents
- to appreciate that human intervention can do more harm than good
- to know that the best way to help a baby animal is to leave it alone unless it is hurt or in danger.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this lesson:
- most pupils: begin to appreciate the ways in which humans have a responsibility towards all animals
- some pupils have not made so much progress and: will know that we have a responsibility towards animals
- some pupils have progressed further and: begin to appreciate the ways in which humans have a responsibility towards all animals and know how to help protect wild animals.
