The role of the RSPCA

This lesson highlights the work of the RSPCA and builds on information gathered from the lessons RSPCA inspectors and Finding new homes for animals.

Curriculum objectives

Pupils should learn:

  • about the history and role of a local and/or national animal welfare organisation
  • about voluntary/charitable organisations and why we need them.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this lesson:

  • most pupils: understand the role of voluntary organisations/charities. They know that we all have a responsibility towards animals, and that there are laws to protect them
  • some pupils have not made so much progress and: understand the role of voluntary organisations/charities
  • some pupils have progressed further and: understand the role of voluntary organisations/charities and why we need them. They investigate a chosen voluntary/charitable organisation, and are aware of the breadth of its work.
