Are you the outdoor type?
The RSPCA is teaming up with Natural England and The Country Trust to offer teachers the opportunity to discover the potential of farms and the countryside as an educational resource.
Our very own Education, Training and Development Adviser, Helen Spicer, will be facilitating a workshop as part of the Classroom in the Countryside courses held in Wetherby on Wednesday, 17 November and Beverley on Thursday, 18th November.
The aim of the day is to explore the opportunities a farm or rural environment can offer to support the delivery of the National Curriculum. Aspects of health and safety and practical considerations will be addressed, along with ensuring that the outdoor classroom has the maximum impact.
What benefit will the course be to teachers?
- To understand the value of outdoor learning, and how farms and the rural environment can be used to enhance National Curriculum subjects, in particular Mathematics and Citizenship
- To gain a hands-on experience of activities
- To gain knowledge of available resources.
Who will be there?
Also present will be:
- Steve Humble - Senior Regional Coordinator for the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics
- Gareth Gaunt – farmer - Carlshead Farms, Wetherby
- David Thompson – Country Trust
- Alex Hall – farmer – Pepperpot Farm, near Keighley
