Prevention - how we can help

RSPCA Education is a completely free service for teachers and youth justice professionals that raises awareness of animals and animal welfare issues.

Our mission statement

Preventing animal cruelty by supporting you to develop informed, responsible and active citizens.

Who we are

The RSPCA Education team includes website and administrative staff based at Headquarters and education, training and development advisers (ETDAs) and prevention programme, training and development advisers (PPTDAs) in various locations in England and Wales.

Our education website offers:

  • A wide variety of lesson plans for teachers, linked to the English and Welsh curricula
  • Activities for youth justice professionals working with young people who are at risk of, or who have been convicted of cruelty to animals
  • Interactive resources for young people aged 5-16
  • A half-termly newsletter to keep you informed of what’s happening on the education website.

Training

We share our knowledge and experience of animal welfare issues through the following training programmes.

For teachers

Our ETDAs offer Initial Teacher Training to universities offering PGCE, BEd, BSc/BA with QTS; SCITT and GTP providers, as part of local authority support days; and NQTs.
INSET is also available to groups of teachers in a twilight session or in either a half or full-day workshop. Contact us to see if these services are available in your area.

As we focus on training teachers, we are unable to provide one-off talks and sessions for pupils as part of this scheme.

For youth justice professionals

Our PPTDAs offer training sessions for professionals working with young people who are at risk of, or have been convicted of cruelty to animals. Contact us to see if these services are available in your area.
