Inspiring children and teens

I don’t need anyone!

My name is Jack and I am nine years old. I don’t really like being around other people. Children my age annoy me. They’re boring and stupid.

I don’t know why they (the adults) are so worried about me. I can look after myself. I don’t need anyone.

Jack joined the Hastings Wild Things project when things weren’t going so well for him at school. He was often excluded from the classroom and seemed reluctant to communicate with his peers.

Over time, and with a little patience, Jack’s confidence grew. Within six months he was communicating more with other children in the group and taking on new responsibilities.

Now I know that animals like quiet and need homes and need to be left alone and not disturbed and like to have food nearby and somewhere to escape to if they need to. I think people are like that too except that they can help each other and have fun too.
