Home for Christmas

18-month-old Rottweiler Dexter was rehomed from our Coventry Branch Animal Centre just before Christmas in 2010.

As you can see Dexter is a big lad and, although our staff worked hard to provide him with the basic training he needed, he still had a long way to go when he started looking for a new home.

Dexter needed experienced and understanding owners who would help him find his way to become the lovely dog he is today.

Patience and understanding

Luckily for us, and definitely for Dexter, Mick and Barbara Edwards recognised the twinkle in Dexter’s eye and were able to offer him the permanent loving home he deserves.

"We had an idea to rehomed a big dog that people wouldn’t give a second chance to. We visited the RSPCA Coventry branch and in the very first kennel we saw Dexter - a beautiful big rottie.

"He had gorgeous markings. He was the one, we both decided there and then. We gave him a walk over the field that was covered in snow and he was really good.

"After our home visit we picked him up on the 5th December 2010. It has taken a good while for him to settle down. He was quite destructive at first, so, we brought him a Kong toy which he lugs around with him now.

I’m glad we had the patience with him, as he’s a joy to have, and he has made me fitter through our long walks.

He is our life, he is Dexter the big boy!

Animals needing special homes

Sadly, many of the animals in our care haven't had the best start in life.

Some struggle to find new homes because they are big, like Dexter, older or because they need to be rehomed with the friend they arrived in our care with.

If you could offer a very special home to a long-stay animal take a look at our special appeals.

Thank you.
