Four-year-old lurcher Rolo was brought to our Gloucester City and District Branch by one of our inspectors.

He'd been neglected, starved and was covered in sores.

When Rolo arrived in our care he was, unsurprisingly, nervous of people and spent a lot of time curled up in the corner of his kennel. However, with plenty of TLC Rolo gradually learnt to trust humans again.

In November 2011, staff at the branch were able to start looking for a new forever home.

Rolo finds a forever home

In July 2012, after seven months in the branch's care, Rolo found his forever home with Mrs Patricia Northway.

Patricia is an experienced dog owner who had rehomed before, she was looking to rehome an older dog who needed a loving home. She said:

By rehoming you get the satisfaction of knowing you’ve given that dog a loving home where they can be happy and live out their lives.

Settling in

After hearing about his awful start in life, and his extended period in kennels, Patricia was expecting a few teething problems as Rolo settled into his new home. However she was pleasantly surprised:

"Rolo is settling in wonderfully well. He was fine at home, even from the first night I never heard a peep.

"He started as a little bit of a handful on the lead, but I’ve had some help from a dog trainer who works with the RSPCA, and he’s settling down nicely.

"Now and again he’ll give him a little start when something catches him unawares, but mostly nothing phases him, he’s a little darling!"
