Smartie

In 2006, a beautiful grey pony called Question who had been featured in our rehoming pages was adopted by Freya, a schoolteacher in Hampshire.

Question went to live on the school premises with Freya's other horse and the children in her class took a keen interest in him.

They held a competition to choose a suitable name for him and several of the children were there to greet him on the day he was delivered.

Question is now called Smartie and is clearly the focus of great interest at school. We received a glorious package of work from the children, who each wrote a poem in tribute to this lucky pony.

Two of the poems are featured below:

Smartie
Smartie is a Welsh Pony as sweet as chocolate.

Mother's love has now disappeared.

Abandoned Smartie was left on his own.

RSPCA found Smartie, a little orphaned foal.

Til Freya came along and gave him a new home.

"In Wales I was sad but in England I am not."

Everyone loves him at school.

Smartie
One morning I woke up, with the smell of stable.
I looked up and down, all around in this stable.

I stumbled to my feet, out of the stable.
I would meet my new mother outside of this place.

I managed to get as close as I could
To my new mother.

My other mother had passed away.
I looked at my new mother in dismay.

At least my new mother could give me food and milk.
A happy place to stay! I'll see her again some day...

Later on, I looked around, I had been found
By the RSPCA! I was no longer lonely.

I had a home, someone would soon find me.

One nice day, someone came.
I think Freya was her name.

She was my new owner and would take care of me
And give me my real name - Smartie!
