Internet Explorer version 7 (IE7)
From the Internet Explorer toolbar, select Tools > Delete Browsing History.
From the new window, select either Delete All, or the type of history you want to delete individually, then select Yes when prompted.
Select Close, then OK, to exit the window. Or if you chose to Delete All, the window should close automatically.
Internet Explorer versions 8 and 9 (IE8 and IE9)
Clear your browsing history
For IE8, from the Internet Explorer Tab Bar select the Safety menu > Delete Browsing History.
For IE9, select the 'gear' icon in the upper right-hand corner of the browser window. When the drop-down window appears, select the Safety menu > Delete Browsing History.
From the new window, tick all you wish to delete.
NB. Don't tick the last option, 'Preserve favourite website data', unless you want to KEEP stored data for websites in your Favourites.
Select Delete and the window should automatically close.
Automatic delete your history
IE8 and IE9 give the option to delete your browsing history each and every time you exit the browser. The type of data deleted depends on what is selected in the Delete Browsing History section.
To set this in IE8, from the toolbar select Tools > Internet Options.
Or if in IE9, select the 'gear' icon in the upper right-hand corner of the browser window and then Internet Options from the drop-down menu.
From the new window, select the General tab and in the Browsing History section tick Delete Browsing History On Exit.
Select Apply and the window should automatically close.
Private browsing
In IE8 and IE9 you have the option to open a new InPrivate Browsing window, which will leave no trace of your activities online.
In IE8, from the toolbar select Safety menu > InPrivate Browsing.
Or if in IE9 select the 'gear' icon in the upper right-hand corner of the browser window. When the drop-down window appears, select the Safety menu > InPrivate Browsing.
