Over 900 million farm animals are killed every year in the UK for meat. We are concerned that the way in which many of these animals are handled and killed is not good enough in terms of animal welfare.

It is vital that animals are handled considerately and either killed swiftly and humanely, or stunned effectively so that they are unconscious and cannot feel pain, before being slaughtered quickly and painlessly.

All farm animals deserve a quiet, humane end to their lives, and we’re working in a number of different ways to try to ensure this.
